Memorial Day Weekend Kicks Off Summer Season

Posted: 05/27/2021
The Memorial Day holiday traditionally marks the beginning of the summer season. With daily temperatures already above seasonal averages, the opening of the City’s Public Outdoor Pools couldn’t come at a better time.

Ed Cothren (1737 Reynolds St.) and Inskip (4204 Bruhin Road) pools open Saturday, May 29. Operating hours are 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays and 1-6 p.m. on Sundays. For more information, visit KnoxvilleTN.gov/aquatics.

Play fountains are currently open at Volunteer Landing, World’s Fair Park and Krutch Park Extension; the fountains in Market Square will open later this summer.

If you’re looking for a different kind of water recreation, Augusta Quarry has new hours beginning Saturday, May 29: gates open at 9:30 a.m. and close at 8 p.m. River Sports Outfitters will rent recreation equipment between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.

City of Knoxville offices will be closed Monday, May 31, 2021, for the Memorial Day holiday. Please be advised of these operations affected by the holiday:

The 311 Center for Service Innovation, which operates the 311 and 211 phone numbers, will be closed Monday. Residents needing to make reports to 311 are encouraged to download the My Knoxville app, available for Apple and Android mobile devices. Online requests can also be made at KnoxvilleTN.gov/311. For a list of social services available in our community, utilize the City’s chatbot at KnoxvilleTN.gov/chat or visit 211.org.

The City's Solid Waste Facility, at 1033 Elm St., will be closed Saturday, May 29 through Monday, May 31.

Parks and Recreation Community and Recreation Centers will be closed Monday.

The City's five recycling drop-off centers will be open Monday, but the Goodwill attendant will not be on site to receive donations of household goods.

Waste Connections will run its normal residential garbage and recycling routes; Thanksgiving and Christmas are the only days of the year when residential curbside trash and recycling are not picked up as scheduled. Crews will also collect downtown trash and recyclables on a regular schedule on Memorial Day.

Knoxville Area Transit trolleys will not operate on Monday, May 31, while buses will operate on a Sunday schedule. Visit KATbus.com for more information.
