City Responds to First Case of COVID-19 in Knox County

Posted: 03/12/2020
The Tennessee Department of Health has confirmed Knox County’s first presumptive positive case of COVID-19. While awaiting confirmation from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, presumptive positive cases are treated as positive. The City of Knoxville will follow Knox County Health Department and CDC guidelines to protect public health and limit the spread of infection.

The Knox County Health Department has verified that this person was exposed overseas and has been in isolation. Currently COVID-19 is not widespread in Knox County, but the City of Knoxville is taking precautions.

“The City of Knoxville has been preparing for a positive COVID-19 case in our area. At this time no city services are being impacted, but we are being cautious and evaluating the situation constantly,” said Mayor Indya Kincannon.

Several events scheduled to take place in the City have been canceled by organizers and the City has canceled its Neighborhood Conference scheduled for March 28, 2020.

Everyone is being urged to wash your hands, avoid touching your face and to stay home if you feel sick.

The City will continue to keep you updated.  You can find a link to the latest information from the Knox County Health Department at KnoxvilleTN.gov.
