The Civil Service Merit Board (CSMB) has oversight for the operation of the city's personnel program to ensure that the city adheres to the merit system principles and practices. The CSMB also hears appeals relative to any personnel action which the employee considers adverse to his or her position. This includes actions such as: suspensions, demotions, termination and other disciplinary action. The CSMB also provides for a grievance procedure and for equal employment opportunities to all employees and applicants for employment. The Civil Service Department also administers the pay and classification plan of the City and coordinates the training programs.
The CSMB meets as needed on the second Wednesday of each month in the City County Building. Individuals wishing to place items on the CSMB's agenda must submit a written request through the board's executive secretary/director by the first Wednesday of each month or one week prior to the CSMB meeting.
