Garbages:
The City of Knoxville collects household garbage weekly through its contractor, Waste Connections, 865-522-0078. Per City code Chapter 13, Article I, Sec. 13-14 and Sec. 13-15, all garbage must be in cans. Each home is allowed to set out four 32-gallon cans.

Construction and Demolition Debris:
Construction and demolition debris is not collected by City crews or Waste Connections. Leaving construction debris on the curb is a violation of City code Chapter 13, Article VII, Sec. 13-169. This material can be taken to the Solid Waste Management Facility during the week for a fee. The first Saturday of every month is Amnesty Day at the SWMF and there is no charge to City residents on these days.

Blocking Roadways:
It is illegal to place bulky trash, brush, branches and/or leaves in any roadway or any sidewalk or drainage ditch. Material should be placed on the edge of the property, easily accessible for collection. As per City Code Chapter 13, Article VII, Sec. 13-167 & Sec. 13-168.

Litter:
City residents are required to maintain and to keep free from loose litter the right-of-way on the front and/or back of their properties. As per City code Chapter 13, Article VI, Sec. 13-142 and Article VIII, Sec. 13-193.

Illegal Dumping:
It is illegal to place garbage, brush, leaves and/or bulky trash on any property except your own. As per City code Chapter 13, Article VII, Sec. 13-168 and Article VIII, Sec. 13-193.

Recycling Centers:
It is illegal to place anything in the recycling containers except the material that has been designated for that container. The signage and/or writing on each individual recycling container will specify what materials are allowed in said container. List of Recycling Centers.

Commercial Dumpsters:
It is illegal to place anything in a commercial dumpster at any business or apartment complex except when you have been given explicit permission by the owner and/or manager of said business or apartment complex.
