This class focuses on the fundamentals of classical ballet and jazz complete with barre and floor workout, stretching and combinations. Ballet will give the student grace and poise with tap and jazz allowing for creativity and freedom of movement. Sandy is a professional dancer and choreographer.

Ages 11-15, The Potter’s Challenge
Monday-Friday, May 24-28
9:00 a.m.-12:00 noon $110.00
Instructors: Elise Murphy & Lori Sloan

This class is designed for the serious art student who desires to push their creativity to a whole new l evel. The first three days of class students will work exclusively on the potter’s wheel making a variety of different shaped vessels. Next, the students will use slips, carving tools and extruders to embellish their unique clay pieces into works of art. Students must have experience on the potter’s wheel prior to this class. Clay pieces will be fired to cone 6 and ready for pick up in approximately 10 days.

Ages 8-13, Traditional Tie Dye/ Batik
Monday-Friday, May 24-28
1:00-4:00, $80.00
Instructor: Nancy Roberson

Students will decorate cloth using the traditional tie dye techniques of binding, folding and clamping and vat dying the cloth. Students will also make a set of four batik cloth napkins using traditional Indonesian Tjanting wax pens and hot wax.

Ages 7-12, Pottery Class
Tuesday-Friday, June 1- 4 (four days)
9:30 a.m.-12:00 noon, $95.00
Instructor: Cathy Maples & Elise Murphy

In this class students will experience throwing on the potter’s wheel and hand building with clay. L earn the basics of how to wedge and center the clay , and hopefully mak e an assortment of different shaped vessels such as cups, vases, and bowls and mask to use and enjoy. A variety of food safe glazes will be available to choose from. All pieces will be fired to cone 6 and ready for pick-up in approximately 10 days.

Ages 7-12, Simple Folk Dolls and Doll Quilts
Monday-Friday, June 1-4 (4 days)
1:00-4:00– p.m., $80.00
Instructor: Nancy Roberson

Throughout the week students will learn to make a variety of simple folk dolls including the Handkerchief Doll, Corn shuck Doll, Yarn Doll and others. A small doll quilt will also be made using minimal piecing and tie quilting techniques. Students must be able to thread a needle prior to registering. everything from the basics of drawing and composition to painting technique style. Expect not only to finish a complete painting, but also to have fun in the learning process. A 2 X 4 floor cloth, use of brushes and acrylic paints are included in the class fee.

Ages 8-13, Drawing and Pastels 101
Monday-Friday, June 14-18
1:00-4:00 p.m., $75.00
Instructor: Elise Murphy

Students will focus on mark making by using lines. With pencil and charcoal, students will do thumbnail sketches, contour drawings, value scales, and shadowing. One day the class will go outdoors to study the architecture and design of the church next door. Students will also make their own portfolios and draw from a still life. All materials are provided.

Ages 6-12 Adventures In Art & Outdoor Fun
Monday-Friday, June 21-25 (all day)
9:00 a.m.-4:.00 p.m., $115.00
Instructors: Anna Gundlach

In this mixed media class students will paint, draw, sculpt, tie dye and more. Unwind, create and have lots of fun in the class designed to unleash the artist in you! Students will also a get a chance to participate in fun outdoor games such as water balloon toss, watermelon seed spitting contest, making their own paper airplane and more. Wear sneakers and play clothes.

Ages 8-13, Stained Glass
Monday-Friday, June 28-July 2 (two classes available).
9:00 a.m.12:00 noon or 1:00-4:00 p.m., $110.00
Instructor: L’Jon Papillion

In this class participants will cut, grind and lead glass to make an 8 ‘X 12’ stained glass panel. Materials and tools will be supplied. Come learn the ancient art and see the world “through colored glass”. L’jon is a seasoned professional in glass and has been a Knox County teacher for a number of years. For your safety, no sandals allowed in this class.

Ages 9-12, Mosaic Garden Stepping Stones and More!
Monday-Friday, July 12-16
9:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. $110.00
Instructors: Cathy Maples, Elise Murphy and Nancy Roberson

Students will learn to make their own mosaic garden stepping stone. Using a 12” round cement base and cement, children will learn to cut glass and design their own unique patterns. These mosaic stones are perfect for a special place in a garden. Students will also make their own salt dough. The dough will be used to sculpt a variety of unique art pieces which will be painted in acrylics, embellished and sealed.

Ages 11-15, Acrylics on Canvas
Monday-Friday, July 19-23
9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m., $80.00
Instructor: Betty Fortenberry

You no longer need to be intimidated by a blank canvas! Discover how to take your favorite photo of a subject or scene and turn it into a work of art. Students will learn everything from the basics of drawing and composition to painting technique style. Expect not only to finish a complete painting, but to have fun in the learning process. A 2 X 3 , floor cloth, use of brushes and acrylic paints are included in the class fee.

Ages 7-12, Hand building 101
Monday-Friday, July 26-30
9:00 a.m.-12:00 noon, $85.00
Instructor: Cathy Maples & Elise Murphy

Students will make wind chimes in a variety of themes. Next, they will sculpt masks and wall pockets using brown speckled stoneware. Elise will guide students through the proper technique to coil, slab and sculpt their clay projects successfully. Come and experience the joy of clay!

Ages 7-12, Paper Arts and Hoops
Monday-Friday, July 26-30
1:00-4:00 p.m., $85.00
Instructor: Nancy Roberson

During this week students will learn various paper arts such as origami, paper weaving, paper sculpture, paper making and more. When not making art projects the students will use a fitness hoop to get their hearts pumping and tone their core muscles. The class will finish with Yogalates mat work and stretching. Wear your sneakers and play clothes.

Ages 9-14, Wheelthrowing and Hand Building with Clay
Monday-Friday, June 7-11
9:00 a.m.-12:00 noon, $110.00

Monday-Friday, June 7-11

Instructor: Nancy Roberson

Students will learn to weave several traditional baskets using rattan reed. Basket types will include the ribbed egg basket, flat woven market basket and circular woven round basket. plus others. Students will also learn about the history of basket and their many uses. A variety of colored reed will be available to dye and choose from.

Ages 8-12, Painting with Acrylics
Monday-Friday, June 14-18
9:00 a.m.-12:00 noon, $80.00
