From the Center,

We are pleased to welcome Elise Murphy, as our new full time Art/ Craft Specialist for the Knoxville Parks and Recreation Department. This year she will graduate from the University of Tennessee with her Masters in Art Education. Prior to being hired she completed the Intern I and II positions with the craft center. Elise is definitely an asset to our program, with her enthusiasm and creativity I’m sure you will be inspired by her as well.

Although the craft center has been in business for over thirty-five years, we continue to evolve in many ways. This past summer, we added three new music classes which include guitar, mandolin, and banjo. These group lessons are geared for age sixteen through senior to enjoy while learning to play together. Also, since health issues are so important, we have added two new fitness classes. Nancy Roberson, a certified instructor, teaches a fun innovative fitness class called Hoop-Fit. In this class, students use weighted fitness hula hoops and abdominal floor exercises to mix up their workout routine. Also, Kathryn Eldridge is teaching Martial Arts to Music (which is a great concept of combining martial arts with low-impact exercises). Yoga and Yogalates classes (which are my favorites) are taught by Sandy Larson. When it comes to fitness and fun, we offer something for everyone to enjoy! City employees, show us your I.D. and receive $10.00 off your next eight-week session!
