Stanley Lippencott Ridge Park History
During the Civil War, troops lived in the area of the park. Gravesites of soldiers and road ruts where cannons moved about still exist. Civil war cannons crossed this area to reach Fort Dickerson and the burial sites of several soldiers in the area. In 1994, Harry Gray Smith sold the land for this park to the City for half of its appraised value. He felt strongly about preserving the area, so he sold the land to the City in order to prevent it from being developed in the future.
