Holiday Traffic Enforcement Plans Announced; DUI Awareness Campaign Launched

Knoxville Mayor Bill Haslam and Police Chief Sterling Owen today announced traffic enforcement plans for the Fourth of July holiday weekend. The specialized enforcement campaign will begin at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 3, 2008, and conclude at Midnight on Sunday, July 6, 2008.
Chief Owen said the Fourth of July holiday is typically the busiest travel weekend during vacation season. The heaviest concentration of traffic can be expected on Thursday evening and during the afternoon and evening hours on Sunday.

Shoney's KidCare Photo ID Program Set for Aug. 22-24, 2008
As part of a national campaign to increase awareness about missing children, Shoney's of Knoxville, Inc. will again host a series of Shoney's KidCare events at area malls in conjunction with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. Parents will receive personal identification for their children to keep in a safe place, which can assist local authorities should their child ever become missing.

Safety City Opens to the General Public
Mayor Bill Haslam and Police Chief Sterling Owen, IV announced that Safety City will be open for use by the general public on Mondays and Thursdays starting June 9-July 31 from 9a.m. until 7 p.m.. Safety City is located at 165 S. Concord Street near Tyson Park.
