To obtain permit:

1. See Aboveground Storage Tank (A.S.T.) Installation Requirements.

2. Contact the City of Knoxville Fire Prevention Bureau for instructions to submit site plan.

3. Submit APPLICATION FOR INSTALLATION / REMOVAL OF FLAMMABLE / COMBUSTIBLE LIQUID ABOVEGROUND / UNDERGROUND STORAGE TANK [PDF], site plan, and applicable fees.

4. Aboveground storage tank permits are valid for one year.

5. Application will be voided if installation is not completed within ninety days of application date and a new application must be submitted.

ANNUAL INSPECTION / RENEWAL OF A.S.T. PERMIT

All aboveground storage tanks, with capacities over sixty gallons, are required to be inspected annually as per Chapter 11, Article I of the Knoxville City Code. The company will receive a bill for the annual inspection fee for each tank on the premises. Upon receipt of the applicable inspection fees the Fire Code Inspector will contact the company, schedule the annual inspection, and present the new annual permit.

Any addition, substitution, or removal of an aboveground storage tank should be reported to the Fire Prevention Bureau immediately.

A.S.T. INSTALLATION AND ANNUAL INSPECTION FEES:

Aboveground tank installation (per tank) $60.00

Aboveground tank annual inspection fee (per tank)
60 to 6,000 gallon capacity $30.00
6,001 to 12,000 gallon capacity $50.00
12,001 to 50,000 gallon capacity $75.00
50,001 gallon and greater capacity $100.00
