Key Entry in New and Existing Construction (Knox Box)

Access boxes are required in all new and existing construction where an alarm system or sprinkler system is present or may be installed. Hazard of contents and type of occupancy may also require the installation of access boxes. In accordance with the 2012 Edition of the IFC, Section 506.1, Key Boxes: The Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) shall have authority to require an access box(es) to be installed in an accessible location where access to or within a structure or area is difficult because of security.

To obtain a Knox Box, please visit http://www.knoxbox.com/store/Knox-Box-3200-Series.cfm. Select the Knoxville City Fire Department (900 E. Hill Ave.) to order one of the boxes. Any questions regarding the type of box recommended or the placement of the box may be directed to Captain Tim Huddleston at 865-215-2283 or thuddleston@cityofknoxville.org.
