East
Tennessee Historical Society Museum.
Preserves and interprets 200 years of the history of
the Tennessee Valley with permanent as well as changing exhibits, workshops,
and programs. Also the start of the Cradle of Country Music Walking
Tour, with quidemaps available in the museum. Admission: $2 Adults, $1
Children 6-12 yrs. Free Wednesdays.
Krutch
Park. Downtown
Knoxville's pride, this little bit of paradise features a small stream, a
variety of native plants, and lots of outdoor seating for relaxing in the
cool peace of nature. During the Christmas season, Krutch Park has
over 100,000 lights. At the north end of the park is Market
Square,
featuring great restaurants & a small farmer's market.
The
Worlds Fair Park.
See Knoxville's Sunsphere,
and the downtown park that was once the setting of the 1982 World's Fair,
and the future site of the Knoxville Convention Center. A short walk over the Clinch Avenue pedestrian viaduct gets you
to The Candy
Factory,
featuring freshly made chocolates. Also housed in this same building
are various galleries exhibiting fine and professional art works &
crafts available for purchase. Next door, visit the Knoxville
Museum of Art,
featuring a wide array of permanent and changing exhibits. Admission
fee. While in the area, visit the Victorian
Shops across
from the museum, featuring art galleries and coffeehouses. Don't miss Fort
Kid- an
amazing jungle gym, located next to the shops.
The
University of Tennessee.
Stop by the student center and get a feel for campus life, or see Neyland
Stadium-it's
hard to miss! Hodges
Library, the
main campus library, is a beautiful building both inside and out. McClung
Museum.
This museum features permanent exhibits on Archaeology and the Native
Americans of Tennessee, Geology Fossils, Ancient Egypt, Medicine, and all
kinds of topics. The museum also features detailed traveling exhibits.

Cumberland
Avenue.
The University of Tennessee's strip features a variety of shops,
restaurants, and nightlife.
The
Bijou Theatre.
This newly-renovated theater features a variety of entertainment from music,
dance, and theater, to other special performances.
The Tennessee Theatre. Renovated 1928 Rococo-style theater is home to the Knoxville Opera Company. This theater also offers a very popular summer film series, complete with The Mighty Wurlitzer Organ performed by the former Chancellor of the University of Tennessee.
