The City of Knoxville Pension Board consists of nine members: four elected employee representatives, the Mayor, the Finance Director, a City Council representative and two representatives appointed by the Mayor.

Non-Uniformed Employees

  • Employees hired in eligible positions with the City are required to participate in Plan H - General Government (GG) beginning on the first pay period of employment with the City.
  • Employee Contributions: 6% of regular bi-weekly salary (does not include overtime); 6% of longevity pay; 6% of any bonus paid;
  • Employer's Contributions: Amount determined actuarially to fully fund benefit of which 8% of the above pay will be credited to the employee's "hypothetical account".

    Uniformed Employees

  • Regular employees of the uniformed bodies of the City commonly referred to as police or fire employees participate in Plan H - Uniformed Bodies (UC) beginning on the first pay period of employment with the City.
  • Employee Contributions: 6% of regular bi-weekly salary (does not include overtime); 6% of longevity pay; 6% of holiday pay; 6% of first responder supplement; 6% of any bonus.
  • Employer's Contributions: Amount determined actuarially to fully fund benefit of which 10% of the above pay will be credited to the employee's "hypothetical account".
